Service description

Terrace Weather service informs which terraces are in the sun or in the shadow in selected time. The service is not scientifically accurate and uses redefined times for sun periods. The service also takes in account when sun rises and sets and weather forecast, but not sun elevation. This means that the service is more accurate in midsummer (June-July) when sun has high elevation and the accuracy gets worse before and after midsummer.

Originally the service used Terrace Guide of City magazine as information source, but terrace information has been modified and added based on user's feedback. To send new terraces and correct mistakes in existing terraces use Inform terrace link. Currently service is focused on Helsinki area.

There is also mobile web optimized version available at m.terassisaa.fi. Mobile phone users will be automatically redirected to mobile version.

Usage instructions

When services map is centered to the centrum of Helsinki or to last viewed area. Sunny terraces are presented with yellow sun icons and dark terraces with gray icons. You can move on the map and selected terrace to view more information by clicking icon. Alternatively you can write part of terrace name in search box and select terrace from search result list.

By default the service uses current time. However you can move in time 12 hours forward by clicking clock icon and selecting time. Alternative you can use arrow icons to move in time backwards or forwards.

By clicking magnifying glass icon you get list of city regions that allows you to view certain region on map. The list only contains regions where terraces are defined.

In case of problems

If you have any problems please empty your browser's cache first. The service has been tested with Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 and newer and Mozilla Firefox 2 and newer, but also many other modern web browsers should work.
